Northwest Arkansas Community College Champions Credo Reference

When considering the purchase of a product or service for your library, isn’t it helpful to hear how your peers use it? Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) can tell you about their success using Credo products.

To assist with her instruction sessions, Shawna Thorup of Northwest Arkansas Community College, uses Credo Online Reference Service. Several of the college’s English courses already required students to construct a mind map, so Credo’s Mind Map brainstorming tool provided a natural match for getting students to think about information dimensionally.
From there, Thorup demonstrates how to delve into more information with Topic Pages, which link to other library resources without even leaving the platform! Her library doesn’t have a discovery service, and this is a great way to help students navigate through information in the library’s online collection.

When Thorup felt the time had come to ramp up her use of InfoLit Modules, she arranged a demo for the English department’s faculty meeting. After viewing the Modules and embedding content in Blackboard, they were “over the moon” for this new tool.

Professors at NWACC are now taking advantage of the flexibility offered by the instructional content and students are equally engaged. During one in-class exercise, after learning about citations through the videos and tutorials, Thorup turns citation construction into a competition. Students coach each other and shout out corrections. Faculty and students have responded well to the InfoLit Modules, and saving valuable time creating materials has allowed librarians to focus more on other areas.
