SUMMARY: Government Information Analyst Trainee
Performs routine and basic research and consultative work in records and information management. Work involves assisting with or advising and instructing state and local Texas government officials on records and information management issues. Works under close to moderate supervision with minimal to limited latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL TASKS

  • Under close supervision, advises and guides Texas government officials on information management issues, state records laws and rules, and the development of compliant information management practices.
  • Conducts previously developed training programs and presentations, with assistance from more tenured staff, to promote sound government information management practices.
  • Under close supervision, coordinates state and local government actions to comply with Texas State records management laws and rules, to include guiding the establishment of programmatic policies and appraising records retention schedules.
  • Researches, analyzes, and evaluates new and existing state or federal legislation, state, federal or judicial administrative rules and guidelines, industry standards and regulations, advances in information management technologies, and issues of strategic importance to determine impacts on information management programs.
  • Recommend revisions to administrative rules and guidance for improvement of information management programs, as applicable.
  • Participates in special projects; projects can be internal (agency or division), or with federal, state, and local governments and/or legislative committees.
  • Perform related work as assigned.
  • Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
  • Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures.

SUMMARY: Government Information Analyst II
Performs complex research and consultative work in records and information management. Work involves assisting with or advising and instructing state and local Texas government officials on all records and information management issues. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

  • Assist with or advises and guides Texas government officials on information management issues, state records laws and rules, and the development of compliant information management practices.
  • Assist with developing and conducting new and existing instructional programs and presentations to promote sound government information management practices.

  • Advises and guides Texas government officials on information management issues, state records laws and rules, and the development of compliant information management practices.
  • Develops and conducts new and existing instructional programs and presentations to promote sound government information management practices.
  • Coordinates state and local government actions to comply with Texas State records management laws and rules, to include guiding the establishment of programmatic policies and appraising records retention schedules.
  • Researches, analyzes, and evaluates new and existing state or federal legislation, state, federal or judicial administrative rules and guidelines, industry standards and regulations, advances in information management technologies, and issues of strategic importance to determine impacts on information management programs. Recommends revisions, edits, and creates administrative rules and guidance for improvement of information management programs, as applicable.
  • Assist with training other analysts on most job functions; assist with reviewing and advising other analysts concerning consultation correspondence; and assist the RMA Manager with reviewing records retention schedules appraisals.
  • Assists with leading or participates in special projects; projects can be internal (agency or division), or with federal, state, and local governments and/or legislative committees.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Government Information Analyst Trainee

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university. Four years of full-time relevant experience in any two of the twelve specific areas of knowledge and expertise listed below may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
  • Experience using standard desktop software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Areas of knowledge and expertise: develop or deliver records management training modules; electronic records management; records inventory and appraisal; retention schedule development; development or implementation of records management policies and procedures; imaging applications; design and implementation of filing systems; reports management; archival appraisal; information security; business continuity; or records center management.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak and write using well-organized and grammatically correct English
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with government officials
  • Ability to work and collaborate with other colleagues or team members in a professional manner
  • Ability to maintain work-related standards under close to moderate supervision with minimal to limited latitude for initiative and independent judgment
  • Ability to research, analyze, and evaluate data and information to formulate conclusions and communicate guidance verbally or in writing
  • Ability to deliver training or present information to groups
  • Ability to apply standardized information management strategies and procedures to unusual and/or critical situations

OTHER REQUIREMENTS AND INFORMATION

  • Occasional overtime work, including nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.
  • Overnight travel and travel by personal vehicle and commercial air required.
  • Complete college transcripts and technical writing samples must be submitted at time of application including at least one training module that was developed or delivered.
  • A 15-minute instructional presentation, on a non-records management subject of the applicant's choice, will be conducted at the time of interview.
  • Must have valid motor vehicle operator's license or obtain Texas license within 30 days of employment.
  • Copy of valid auto insurance card and driving record required of selected applicant.
  • Ability to work in a non-smoking environment.

SUPERVISION
