Position Highlights
The University of Arizona Libraries seeks a creative, collaborative librarian to join our team of embedded liaison librarians in the Health Sciences Library (UAHSL). The incumbent will serve as one of two liaisons for the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson and will join UAHSL at an exciting, opportunity-rich time. The Health Sciences Library enjoys a highly collaborative relationship with the College and is on the cusp of several opportunities to support new academic programs, collaborate with College faculty on new approaches to teaching evidence-based practice, and support students as they complete a new scholarly project requirement.

This position will support the undergraduate medical curriculum, graduate medical programs, and research and outreach missions of the College of Medicine. Responsibilities include providing instruction related to evidence-based practice; providing information services to medical students, trainees, and faculty to support their educational and research needs; and serving on systematic review teams. This position will occasionally provide information services to other health sciences colleges (Public Health, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine) as needed.

This is a continuing-eligible or continuing track, academic professional position. Incumbents are members of the general faculty and are entitled to all accompanying rights and privileges granted by the Arizona Board of Regents and the University of Arizona.   • Develop and deliver information services and instruction primarily for College of Medicine students, faculty, researchers, and trainees, both in person and remotely.
  • Collaborate with College of Medicine-Tucson faculty and other campus resources to develop engaging, innovative methods of instruction in evidence-based practice. Provide curricular support for targeted courses in the College of Medicine. Instruct students, faculty, staff, and other users in the effective and productive use of information resources and tools in a variety of formats and venues to support health sciences instruction and research missions.
  • Conduct complex literature searches within specialized biomedical and other scientific databases and information resources. Provide expert search services to projects and grants requiring extensive literature search support, including but not limited to systematic and scoping reviews.
  • Provide support for research in the College of Medicine – Tucson, including support for literature searches, citation management, researcher identifiers (e.g., ORCID), NIH Public Access Policy compliance, data management, and scholarly communications. Coach and collaborate with medical students as they complete required scholarly projects.
  • Develop UAHSL web-based resources in clinical medicine and medical education that provide authoritative, evidence-based health information to health professionals statewide and support the education, research, and outreach missions of the UA Health Sciences Library and UA Libraries.
  • Provide personalized outreach to students with a focus on students from underrepresented and minoritized backgrounds and serve as their champion and ally. Participate in library orientations and tours and library outreach sessions.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across UA Libraries and the UA campus. Serve on library and health sciences campus committees and research teams. Work with other UA librarians to develop shared materials, services, policies, and processes.

  • Familiarity with current and anticipated future directions in medical education and biomedical research.
  • Knowledge of standards for systematic reviews in healthcare.
  • Strong organizational skills, a high degree of self-motivation, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited institution or other relevant advanced degree.
  • Demonstrated experience with health sciences information resources, expert searching, information management tools, computer applications, finding quality information on the Internet, and experience with automated library systems.
  • Experience in developing and presenting educational sessions and the ability to teach adults effectively using a variety of educational tools and technologies, both in person and online.
  • Experience with evidence-based practice principles and resources applicable to library instruction and materials.

  • Experience contributing to organizational or personal diversity and inclusion-related goals and initiatives.
  • Evidence of active and ongoing contributions to the information/library profession and the ability to fulfill the responsibilities of a library faculty member through service and scholarship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree and/or professional training in health sciences or related discipline
  • Experience as a liaison librarian in the health sciences
  • Experience conducting expert searches for systematic reviews or other evidence synthesis projects
  • Experience with data management in an academic setting
