SUMMARY:
The Director of Research and Instruction Services (Associate Librarian – Faculty), provides strategic direction and administrative supervision of all library research and instruction service operations to enhance student learning and academic success. This is a non-tenure track librarian faculty position.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contributes to strategic planning, assessment strategies, and facilitates special projects.
  • Provides strategic direction and leadership for Research and Instruction Services departments.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean of Collections and Discovery to align scholarly resources with the teaching and research needs of the university.
  • Supervises and evaluates management of research, instruction, scholarly communications, subject librarian program, student learning and engagement.
  • Coordinates schedules for library instructions, chat, and other associated departmental services.
  • Compiles and analyzes annual services statistics and other assessment data for internal and external reports, including IPEDS, ACRL and new program proposals.
  • Collaborates with faculty to integrate information and digital literacy into the teaching, learning, and research activities at the university.
  • Serves on the Collection Development and Assessment Committees.
  • Works collaboratively with library and external departments.
  • Provides research assistance, creates instructional materials, and serves as a subject librarian to a college/department.
  • Leads the development of innovative activities and services in support of engagement.
  • Supports the professional growth, development, and retention of departmental employees.
  • Advances/strengthens the subject librarian, information/digital literacy, and collection development programs.
  • Serves on library and university committees.
  • Participates in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: ALA-accredited MLS degree.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
    • Three (3) years of post-MLS experience in research and instruction services (reference, instruction, user engagement), in an academic setting.
    • One (1) year of supervisory experience.
    • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Attention to detail and project management skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to:
    • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
    • Ability to adapt to a changing library environment.
    • Ability to work an evening and weekend schedule as needed.
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: None
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.
  • Other Requirements: Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years of post-MLS experience in research and instruction services, in an academic setting. Three (3) years of supervisory experience. Experience with collection development, implementing and assessing information/digital literacy, and instructional design. Experience with Springshare and associated software/platforms.

Librarians, Staff, Graduate Students, and Student Workers.
