Job Summary: Texas A&M University-Kingsville seeks an energetic, innovative librarian for the position of Assistant Librarian/Head of Technical Services. Under the direction of the Library Director, this full time, faculty position manages the Technical Services Department.

Job Responsibilities: Supervise a department of four full-time faculty/staff in the following information support areas within Technical Services; possess familiarity or working knowledge of each of these areas to aid with the administration of the systems, workflow, and software utilized: acquisitions, cataloging, e-resources, government documents, scholarly communications, and serials. This position additionally collaborates with the Head of Special Collections and Archives for crossover of services and resources among library and archives collections. Serve as the primary system administrator for the TAMUK Digital Repository. Responsible for updating and maintaining related policies relevant to industry standards and best practices. Monitors departmental budgets and ensures that funds are appropriately expended. Maintains accurate statistics, submits required reports and budget requests. Maintains on-going relationships with vendors. This position utilizes the integrated library system (ILS) Sierra to create and maintain records, troubleshoot, and generally make resources available and usable to student, faculty, staff, and community users. Participates as a member of the Library Administrative Team as the representative of Technical Services. Participates in reference services including the weekend reference rotation. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: MLS or equivalent from an American Library Association accredited program from a regionally accredited institution or university required. Three years professional experience in library technical services in an academic library. Experience with an integrated library system, library budgeting and accounting practices, and supervising library professionals and support staff. Ability to solve problems and make sound decisions. Demonstrated effective management skills, including communication, planning, organizing and supervising. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to multitask and work effectively in a team environment. Working knowledge of office suite applications. Excellent customer service attitude.

Preferred Qualifications: Five years professional experience in academic library technical services department. Experience with serials control, acquisition accounting functions in an integrated library system. Experience with Sierra integrated library system. Knowledge of OCLC, activities in acquisitions, collection development principles, cataloging standards and operations, and managing license agreements.
