The Research Support Services Department (part of Public Services Division) of the University of North Texas (UNT) Libraries is seeking to hire a Business Librarian to serve as subject librarian to the College of Business (COB), work collaboratively with department, division, and other library personnel, and advance the strategic directions of the library and university.

Summary of position

Position Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Serves as the subject librarian to the College of Business.
    • Provides specialized research assistance and instruction services, including
    • individual research consultations and innovative library instruction to faculty and students.
    • Develops web content and library instructional materials, including class and subject guides.
    • Provides communication, outreach, and business research assistance to faculty and students in the COB.
    • Facilitates collection development in relevant subject areas.
    • Maintains current knowledge of trends and issues in computer, library, and information science fields and liaison subject areas.
  • Supports AI literacy for faculty, staff, and students in their subject areas
    • Cultivates strong relationships with faculty and students to understand their evolving needs related to AI
    • Collaborates with faculty and researchers to assess and integrate AI tools and methodologies into their research projects
    • Collaborates with faculty to deliver AI literacy instruction and outreach
    • Stays informed about the evolving landscape of AI ethics, policies, and regulations, including data privacy, bias, and transparency issues.
    • Actively participates in discussions on AI within the library and broader academic community
  • Participates in RSS department activities and projects as needed.
    • Participates in strategic planning of the RSS department.
    • Participates in activities of the Subject Librarian workgroup and other teams.
    • Works with units in the library and on campus to regularly assess programs and services.
  • Contributes to department, division, library, and university goals and initiatives.
  • Participates in scholarly, professional, and service activities appropriate to rank.
  • Effectively collaborates with and maintains a collegial working relationship across library departments and divisions and across campus.
  • Fosters positive relations with faculty, students, and staff, and promotes the University’s and Library’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment.

Required qualifications

The candidate will possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • American Library Association accredited master's degree, or equivalent terminal degree
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to build effective work relationships
  • Teaching skills leading to effective instruction in information literacy
  • Commitment to high-quality public service
  • Analytical skills to aid in use of library information resources, innovation, and decision-making

Preferred qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Experience working in an academic library
  • Knowledge of or experience with business-related resources
  • Knowledge of or experience with AI and emerging technologies
  • Experience in public service work environments
  • Experience with research methods, copyright, and/or scholarly communications issues
  • An established record of service and scholarship

Salary and Rank

Entry salary for rank of Assistant is $67,174; Associate $71,674; Full $77,974 with rank and hiring salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Librarian rank will be determined by the Library Personnel Affairs Committee through review of the selected candidate’s education, experience, scholarly and professional involvement, and service.
