Job Summary:
The Lead Library Specialist for Open Educational Resources (OER) and Digital Scholarship (OERDS) supports the Digital Publishing Librarian in managing the Libraries’ open access publishing program through Mavs Open Press. This position is responsible for coordinating publishing project timelines and workflows, communicating with faculty, staff, and student partners, and maintaining accessibility and quality standards. As part of the OERDS department, the Lead Library Specialist assists with the efficient operation of programs and projects and with collecting and reporting departmental data and assessment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Digital Publishing
- Under the supervision of the Digital Publishing Librarian, coordinates departmental efforts to ensure that all subcomponents for Mavs Open Press submissions (books and journals) progress through the publication workflow and adhere to designated timelines.
- Communicates regularly and proactively with publishing project authors and editors.
- Maintains and upholds best practices for accessibility in web content and digital documents.
- Answers basic questions on copyright, fair use, and open licensing.
- Presents informational sessions on publishing workflows, accessibility standards, and grant requirements.
- Creates and maintains informational training guides and operational documentation and makes recommendations for change.
- Provides excellent customer service to subject matter experts, including faculty, staff, and students from across campus; UTA Libraries’ staff and administration; and other community members.
- Departmental Program Support
- Coordinates data collection and assessment for strategic projects and departmental evaluation, including semesterly cost avoidance data and student satisfaction surveys.
- Coordinates project workflows and timelines for other departmental teams and projects, such as the UTA CARES Grant, Course Reserves, Digital Projects, and MavMatrix.
- Assists OERDS team with workshops, training, and consultations, including scheduling and catering.
- Contributes to departmental marketing and outreach through the Open @ UTA blog, Libraries’ websites, LibGuides, social media, and other platforms.
- Provides input on the department’s strategic planning and goal-setting activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Two (2) years of experience providing professional administration and coordination of a program/project.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year of experience in publishing and/or overseeing print or electronic communication.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating projects using project management software, such as Trello, Microsoft Planner, or Asana.
- Experience or training in using Pressbooks or WordPress, Adobe InDesign, or other digital publishing platforms.
- Experience or training in using HTML and CSS for web design.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of universal design and/or common accessibility barriers and experience evaluating and addressing them.
- Knowledge of copyright law as it relates to education and ability to provide guidance on public/open licensing options.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with people of different backgrounds in a team-based environment.
- Professional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to analyze situations and make sound decisions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive/SharePoint, and other common office software.
