Amigos is pleased to offer a hands-on introduction and overview to help library staff maintain their circulating hardcover book collection. Preservation expert Rebecca Elder will guide attendees through repair techniques for paper (surface cleaning, mending, tipping in pages) and books (hinge tightening and corner repair) and provide guidance for setting up a repair workspace, understanding book repair terminology, and engaging a conservator.
Two sessions, morning and afternoon, will be available on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
This in-person session is limited to 12 attendees to help facilitate actual book repair practice. To provide as many member libraries with an opportunity to participate, a limit of two registrations per institution is requested.
Due to the class size limit, a waitlist will be made available for sessions that reach capacity.
A fee of $75 will provide brushes, scissors, cutting mats and other equipment that attendees will be able to take back to their institutions to continue their book repair practice. Attendees are expected to bring 2-3 deaccessioned hardback books in good condition to practice repairs on. If these requirements provide a hardship, please contact learning@amigos.org.
Amigos looks forward to offering this training in additional locations throughout our membership region. Please contact learning@amigos.org with specific request for hosting this training.
