Change can often happen when we are already deep into a rhythm, process, or workflow, requiring a quick pivot to new services, responsibilities, and roles. Strong, cohesive teams position an organization to successfully face transitions such as reorganizations, staff vacancies and changeover, and external upheaval. With a focus on teambuilding and collective planning during times of transition, organizations can find new paths and navigate changed roles. Create a sense of purpose and community among newly connected colleagues, managing both up and down the organizational structure, and develop priorities that will guide the current and future work of a new team.
Mea Warren is the Interim Head of Teaching and Learning at the University of Houston Libraries, where she manages the Teaching and Learning department, leading the department in their role of supporting student success on campus through teaching information literacy concepts through classes and consultations, both in the curricular and co-curricular realm. Before becoming the Interim Head of Teaching and Learning, she was the Assistant Head of Teaching and Learning, and previously the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Librarian. Mea received her bachelor's degree from Duke University and her MLIS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, during which she worked at the Environmental Protection Agency in Research Triangle Park.
Veronica Arellano Douglas is the Interim Associate Dean for Research and Student Engagement at the University of Houston Libraries. m. Prior to joining the UH Libraries in 2018, she was a Reference & Instruction Librarian and Instruction Coordinator at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Veronica is the winner of the 2020 Miriam Dudley Instruction Librarian Award and was an ACRL Information Literacy Immersion Program Facilitator. She has written and presented extensively on a range of topics, including critical information literacy, instructional design, gendered labor in libraries, library assessment, and librarianship in general. Veronica has an MLIS from the University of North Texas and a BA in English from Rice University.
