Job Summary:
The FabLab Coordinator facilitates the efficient daily operations of various service areas within the Libraries’ FabLab. The Coordinator will lead student employees in providing exemplary customer service and assist with services and equipment primarily related to textiles, glass and ceramics, printmaking, 3D printing, and laser cutting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides front line support to facilitate access to and operation of the creative technologies within the department.
  • Instructs users on proper use of tools while ensuring a positive customer experience throughout their visit.
  • Conducts inventory and reports any space or maintenance needs.
  • Serves as a backup for student employees to ensure adequate staffing of the space and services.
  • Collaborates with Creative Spaces and Services leadership to train, supervise, and evaluate numerous student employees within the department.
  • Oversees effective scheduling of student employees throughout each semester for the designated service area.
  • Assists with leading outreach and instruction activities for the Creative Spaces and Services department (eg: tours, tabling events, workshops, etc.).
  • Engages in cross-departmental strategic, communication and functional task forces within University Libraries.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with two (2) years related experience.
  • Experience with three (3) or more of the following creative technologies: Glass, Ceramics, Printmaking, Textiles, 3D Printing, 3D Scanning, Laser Cutting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of related experience with one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • One (1) year of experience managing and/or working in a makerspace or digital fabrication lab.
  • Previous teaching experience, demonstrating the use of multiple teaching methodologies.
  • Experience with current and emerging technologies and their applications in academic libraries and how knowledge of how they apply across disciplines.
  • Experience designing instructional/informational materials, both in print and online.
  • Experience with outreach and marketing services to students and faculty.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced software skills, including proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D modeling software, and other CAD/CAM tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with people of different backgrounds in a team-based environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to analyze situations and make sound decisions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive/SharePoint, and other common office software.

Work Schedule:
Tuesday – Thursday, 11AM – 8PM and Friday – Saturday, 10AM – 7PM

  • Hybrid eligible, one (1) remote day per week.
  • Flexibility is required to ensure the department is appropriately staffed in order to satisfy all service needs.
  • Professional development, conferences, and training may require travel and/or overnight accommodations.
