Wikipedia & Libraries -- Enemies or Allies?
While hearing a patron or student say that Wikipedia is their go-to resource may cause many librarians to shudder in dismay, libraries and Wikipedia actually share a common goal - to provide free and open access to information for all. Attendees will learn why Wikipedia is important, the "rules", reliability, and best uses for Wikipedia, and the advantages and disadvantages of using Wikipedia for research.
Learning Objectives:
- Define Wikipedia and discuss its history
- Define the 5 Pillars of Wikipedia
- Evaluate the reliabilty of Wikipedia
- Discuss best practices for using Wikipedia
- Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using Wikipedia
Target Audience:
This course is intended for all library types.
