Preserving Your Historical Records
This class covers the basics of proper care and storage of archives and manuscript collections.
Topics include:
- an overview of deterioration causes
- selection of folders, boxes, and other housing materials
- processing of archives
- providing storage for oversized materials, maps, and photographs
- proper handling and exhibition practices
- basic paper repair techniques
- development of holdings maintenance policies, guidelines, and practices
Learning Objectives:
- Identify major causes of deterioration of archival records
- Assess your institution's storage conditions
- Identify appropriate storage materials
- Design storage procedures for their archival records
Target Audience:
Suitable for anyone with responsibilities for caring for archival records
