Clicking the Bait: Helping Patrons Decipher Fake News and Alternative Facts
In this course, we will learn how to identify misinformation and alternative facts by applying various media/information literacy techniques and exploring resources that can be used to separate fact from fiction. In turn, you will be able to pass this knowledge on to your patrons to help them decipher what is fake and what is real information.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize fake news, alternative facts, and misinformation in the media and other sources
- Analyze articles and other forms of media to verify the validity and credibility of the information reported
- Explain to patrons various strategies and tips to identify fake news, alternative facts, and misinformation they may encounter

Prerequisites:
Attendees should have familiarity with Web browsers and the Internet. Basic HTML experience is preferred.
Homework Expectations and Completion Requirements:
- Approximately one hour of homework will be required.
- It is designed for individual participation; each individual must register.
