Know & Go: How XSL Stylesheets Work

Every day metadata is being transformed. A library may like your metadata, but wants it encoded in their standard. An archive has an EAD finding aid, but they need to make available on the web. What makes all of this possible? Stylesheets! This Know & Go will introduce the eXtensible Stylesheet Language and demonstrate how it works to transform XML documents into other formats.
 

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the relationship between XML and XSL
  • Define XSL templates and demonstrate how they work
  • Demonstrate the function of some XSL elements in transforming XML
  • Show examples of transformed XML documents

Target Audience:
Metadata librarians, catalogers, and IT staff with little or no exposure to XSLT

Prerequisites:

  • Basic understanding of XML

  • This event is open to group registration; no CEUs are available for this event.
