Under the direction of Metropolitan Library Commission, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Metropolitan Library System is responsible for all functions of the Library, including a healthy culture, strategic planning and operations, facility construction, renovations and expansions, guest and support services, finance, human resources, technology, community relations, communications, and fundraising. The Chief Operations Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Guest Officer, Chief People Officer, Chief Community Officer, Chief Technology Officer, and Executive Assistant all report to the CEO.

The Metropolitan Library Commission seeks a strong, experienced leader with a high-level, strategic mindset to serve as the next CEO of the Metropolitan Library System. The ideal candidate will be transparent and accessible, able to build trust both internally and externally. They will possess and practice acute emotional intelligence and be a positive influence on the organization. The position requires a Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited college or university in Library and Information Science, plus ten (10) years of progressively responsible personnel management experience. Evidence of increasing responsibility and interdisciplinary approaches to problem-solving and decision-making, is also required. Experience in a major urban public library/library system and/or an academic library system is preferred, along with five (5) years of experience working with guests in a public library setting. Residency is required within 45 days of employment.

The Metropolitan Library System offers a competitive salary range of $175,000 - $200,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
