ABC-CLIO Databases win BESSIE Award
Two ABC-CLIO databases available through Amigos are recent recipients of BESSIE awards. Modern Genocide: Understanding Causes and Consequences and The American Mosaic: The Latino American Experience have been honored with 2014 Best Education Software (BESSIE) Awards in the Best Social Studies and Best Latino Studies websites for High School categories.
The BESSIES are sponsored by The ComputED Gazette and recognize outstanding and innovative programs and websites that help educators facilitate a richer educational experience through technology. ABC-CLIO has been recognized by the BESSIES for the last 11 years.
Second-time award-winning Modern Genocide includes 300 primary sources that illustrate the process and outcome of genocide. Included are memoirs, narratives, domestic and international legal documents, as well as firsthand accounts that vividly depict the impact of destruction on entire societies and on individuals' lives.
Designed and developed under the guidance of Latino librarians, The Latino American Experience provides learners far more than history lessons with facts and figures; it gives voice to the Latino experience through Latino authors and contributors. Coverage ranges from precontact Aztec and Mayan societies to 21st-century political issues like recent immigration law to cultural themes like coming-of-age rituals, music, literature, and cuisine.
