Amigos Member Librarians Attend ALA Leadership Institute
A number of leaders from Amigos member libraries recently participated in Leading to the Future, a four-day immersive leadership development program for future library leaders conducted August 10-14 by the American Library Association’s Leadership Institute.
Thirty-eight librarians were selected for participation in the management development program from a highly competitive national pool of applicants. The selection committee sought a diverse participant mix based on library type, professional responsibility, geography, gender, and race/ethnicity. Participants were chosen based on their demonstrated leadership potential, readiness for increased responsibility, professional achievement, and community or campus involvement.
The program was led by leadership experts Maureen Sullivan (2012–2013 ALA President) and Kathryn Deiss (Content Strategist for the Association of College and Research Libraries). Held in Itasca IL, the program was designed to help participants develop and practice their leadership skills to better help the libraries and the communities they serve.
