Information Literacy: Adapting to the New Framework
February 17-18, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. CST
Register Now
Early Bird Deadline: January 26In February of 2015, the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) adopted the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. This framework sharply contrasts with the standards of information literacy instruction developed in the Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. Where the Standards listed performance indicators and outcomes to assess during information literacy instruction, the new Framework applies a much more theoretical and interpretable approach.
In this two-day course, we will inspect the six frames that make up the new framework, comparing them with the rather rigid structure of the old competency standards. We will also identify possible curriculum examples in response to each frame, all the while discussing what the new framework predicts for the future of information literacy.
