Introduction to Scholarly Metrics

This new course will provide an introductory overview of tried-and-true bibliometric indicators, including citation-based metrics such as Journal Impact Factor and h-Index. We will also cover the web-based metrics known as alternative or altmetrics. Scholarly metrics is a rapidly evolving field, so we will also identify some newer bibliometrics and altmetrics tools.

Students will come away from the workshop being able to use scholarly metrics appropriately and responsibly, identify basic bibliometric and altmetric indicators used in research evaluation processes and more.
