Description
Responsible for the management of the Integrated Library System (ILS) (currently SirsiDynix Symphony), including authority
control, technical support, problem-solving, patron/circulation, material records, upgrades, customizations, and staff training. Provide original and copy cataloging of Library acquisitions in a variety of formats using appropriate national standards such as AACR2, RDA, MARC, LC Subject Headings, LC Classification, Superintendent of Documents (SuDoc), and local practices. Assistance with collection development, procurement, accounts payable, and reference/research instruction, as needed.

Qualifications
The Library Technician shall report to the Director of Library Services. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for development and maintenance of Integrated Library System (ILS) (SirsiDynix Symphony) with emphasis on collection and patron management.
  • Use of OCLC WorldShare services, locating appropriate records, exporting and importing bibliographic records.
  • Knowledge of MARC 21 format, AACR2, RDA, LC Subject Headings and Classification. Original cataloging as needed.
  • Update or edit bibliographic records as necessary, or required.
  • Duplicate check, receive, process (cover, barcode, security), and catalog all incoming Library materials to include, but not limited to: books, audio, video, serials, NM State publications, and Federal Depository items.
  • Responsible for overseeing training of Library Assistants, Student Workers, and other Library personnel on patron management, and search, and other functions within SirsiDynix Symphony.
  • Weeding from ILS, removal of items from OCLC.
  • Monitor and update catalog and records as industry standards change.
  • Monitor and update per semester, if required, Library and classroom reserves.
  • Create, schedule, and monitor all reports generated through ILS. Circulation statistics per month. Inventory as required. Adjust policies within ILS when needed, including semester operating calendar.
  • Prepare Federal Depository reports as requested from agencies.
  • Communicate with vendors, publishers, and government agencies regarding materials. Report student accounts with lost/damaged items to Business Office.
  • Basic computer and software troubleshooting, to include student and staff computers, reservation management software, printing module, and system recovery software.
  • Provide customer service to students, staff, faculty, and local patrons while maintaining Library’s policies and procedures.
  • In Reference Librarian or Director of Library Services absence, assist with information resources and research.
  • Perform data compilation for required state, federal, and Estacado Library Information Network (ELIN) Consortium reports.
  • Repair, mend, or weed damaged items as discovered by Library Assistants or other Library personnel.
  • May assist with Library website/database access module.
  • May serve on various campus committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.

Additional Qualifications

  • High school diploma required. Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a library or public service environment, two years of experience cataloging or data management, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of OCLC WorldShare, Connexion, and SirsiDynix Workflows preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Integrated Library System software.
  • Knowledge of Library of Congress (LC) Classification system, MARC 21 standards.
  • Knowledge of common library and academic practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of College policies and procedures.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Skill in the troubleshooting and managing of computers and related equipment.
  • Ability to learn new software systems.
  • Ability to provide basic reference services.
  • Ability to learn and utilize College/Library website management software.
  • Ability to run statistical reports with appropriate parameters.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Ability to track, compile, and interpret Library resource usage statistics; generate required reports.
  • Ability to research and utilize electronic Library information resources.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to self-manage multiple projects simultaneously while on a deadline.

This is a twelve-month, non-exempt position. Standard benefits apply. The full pay range for this position is $16.98 to
$24.73.
