Job Summary:
The FabLab Technician for Studios Operations is responsible for ensuring safe and reliable access to the Studios tools within the Creative Spaces and Services department in UTA Libraries. This includes creating documentation, providing training, and overseeing and advocating for the administrative needs of their space for optimized access throughout the year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the administrative duties for the Studios including, but not limited to: creating and updating space policies and procedures; managing area budgets and purchasing needs; hiring and scheduling student employees; managing space access; and representing Studios’ needs in departmental efforts.
  • Manages efforts for hiring, training, and supervising Studios student employees, in collaboration with CSS Coordinators and Maintenance Technicians. Supervises and promotes the professional development of Studios Coordinators and a portion of the area’s student employees.
  • Develops and manages projects that contribute to the effectiveness and optimization of Studios workflows, such as assessing spaces, staffing, and programming; creating training guides and user guides; or preparing proposals and reports to support data-driven decision making.
  • Assists with oversight of daily Studios operations as a backup to the Studios student employees and Coordinators. Works with learners to assist in the development of their projects and directs them to the most appropriate tools and resources. Assists with planning, creating, and leading classes, tours and workshops when appropriate.
  • Engages in cross-departmental strategic, communication and functional task forces within University Libraries.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Three (3) years related experience
  • Experience with three (3) or more of the following creative technologies: Digital Imaging, Video Editing, Sound Design, Motion Capture, Photography

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) year supervisory experience
  • Two (2) years of experience managing and/or working in a makerspace or digital fabrication lab
  • Experience working with other creative technologies: 3D Printing, 3D Scanning, Laser Cutting, Electronics, Textiles, CNC router, plasma cutter, welding, table saw, compound miter saw, jointers, planers, drills, etc.
  • Previous teaching experience, demonstrating the use of multiple teaching methodologies
  • Experience with current and emerging technologies and their applications in academic libraries and how these apply across disciplines
  • Creativity and experience designing instructional/informational materials, both in print and online
  • Experience with outreach and marketing services to students and faculty.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced software skills, including proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D modeling software, and other CAD/CAM tools
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with people of different backgrounds in a team-based environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to analyze situations and make sound decisions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive/SharePoint, and other common office software.

Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday; 9:00am-6:00pm.

  • Hybrid eligible, one (1) remote day per week.
  • Flexibility is required to ensure the department is appropriately staffed in order to satisfy all service needs.
